In such instances, an engine that is rated for maximum propulsive power works in an unfavourable partial-load range that is inefficient in terms of emissions and fuel consumption. Hybrid drive systems<\/strong> are predestined for applications with highly variable power ranges. These generally consist of two separate power sources (diesel and\/or electric motors) per propeller with different power ratings. SCHOTTEL has further extended the system to a broader understanding of hybridization with SYDRIVE-M.<\/strong><\/p>\n

SYDRIVE-E<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thanks to the combined or sequential use of combustion engine\u00a0and electric motor, SYDRIVE-E<\/strong>\u00a0with its extensive and intelligent\u00a0operating modes, enables efficient\u00a0energy and thrust generation in\u00a0many different operating conditions. A unique feature is the flexible configuration of power input positions,<\/strong> which allows the drive\u00a0train to be designed in various manners. This provides greater\u00a0freedom when designing a vessel and ensures that the individually\u00a0available installation space can be\u00a0used optimally. Three power input positions for a \u00b190\u00b0 or \u00b1135\u00b0 installation angle form a Y-shaped arrangement. The individual\u00a0power inputs are not subject to\u00a0any power limitation which means\u00a0that any arrangement of primary\u00a0and secondary input with variable\u00a0load distribution can be realized.<\/p>\n

SYDRIVE-M<\/strong>
\nSCHOTTEL SYDRIVE-M<\/strong> is a\u00a0variable and purely mechanical hybrid propulsion system with no need for any costly additional electronic components. The concept is based on the recent SCHOTTEL Y-Hybrid thruster technology<\/strong> and connects a port and starboard mounted azimuth thruster in a vessel with each other. They can be driven together by only one of the main engines.<\/p>\n

OPERATION MODES<\/strong><\/p>\n

Based on the unique SCHOTTEL SRP-Y Hybrid<\/strong> upper gear module for azimuth thrusters, SCHOTTEL SYDRIVE-M<\/strong> is a variable and purely mechanical hybrid propulsion system with no need for any additional electronical components or an additional gear box.<\/strong> This system comes with many advantages as noted in the three following main operation modes:<\/p>\n

– Light operation, or free sailing mode \/ one engine powering two main thrusters
\n– Full thrust operation mode \/ full propulsion, with one engine per thruster
\n– Fire Fighting mode \/ one propulsion engine driving the Fire Fighting pump<\/p>\n
